The Project's Purpose
The MMO Garden was begun in 2007 as a place for clients to gain self esteem by working for their own food, as well as
learning about common garden variety vegetables that could be grown in their own yeards. The garden is also a place
to recycle compostable materials that would otherwise just be thrown in the dumpsters (several tons in 2008 alone). After
a limited 2008 growing season due to constant flooding and limited client involvement, we are still working on a schedule
for gardening activities that will fit the needs of both volunteer helpers and clients. MMO anticipates that 2009 will
bring a greater level of participation and an improved harvest.
Thanks to all of these volunteers, we now have 1800 square feet of wonderful garden soil
just waiting to produce lots of ripe tomatoes, sweet onions, juicy cantalopes, watermelons, and Fred's favorite peppers
(hot of course). We invite clients and volunteers alike to come out and make the 2009 garden the best yet.

2008 Day of Caring Projects
The garden is now in much better shape due to a series of concentrated work days. ConocoPhillips
employees from Real Property Administration installed a complex drainage system to handle rainwater runoff, and still other
COP employees from the Procurement Leverage Service Center raised all the beds to allow for greater soil depth for planting.

The pledge class from Sigma Nu Fraternity at OSU finished the fence
and did some major cleanup, and other groups from Bartlesville Youth Leadership Class and the Lowe's Family Scholars helped
with various cleanup projects.
These groups and the regular MMO volunteers
contributed almost 1,000 hours toward improving and maintaining the garden in 2008.
